The issue of majority-minority has always attracted the attention of both the lay and the knowledgeable since long. Of late, the focus has been more from the perspective of democratic and citizenship rights, human rights, and access to social and economic opportunities.

The Minority population in India is considered to be majorly Muslims, whose population is around 13.4%. Other minorities in India along with their work participation rates are represented in the below table.

Challenges of Minorities:

Among the minorities, the status of Muslims, numerically the largest group has been dismal in terms of economic status and the level of education including the technical and professional spheres. Although there are several government schemes available to uplift the minorities in India, the literacy rate is very less. Consequently, issues of pressing concern such as rampant poverty, landlessness, and caste discrimination, rapid economic marginalization get aggravated.

Hence on the employability front, they are considered to be unskilled workers in common because of their skill level.
